Jane's Cosmic Weather Horoscope - September 2018

Cosmic Weather Horoscope: September 2018 by Jane Lyle.

Welcome to September 2018.

September’s astrology suggests a most vibrant month with great constructive potential for change and positive developments. It’s as if all those annual back-to-school, harvest-time, new season themes have been given extra oomph and fabulosity. Yes, it’s gritty and scratchy in parts, of course. But there’s plenty of energy, and a refreshing shift after the sultry summer months.

You may not notice much at first, but by the time of the new Moon on 9th September, we’ll all scent the potential for something fresh in the September air. Once Saturn turns forward on 6th September, there’ll be six planets moving forwards. In August, mostly, six planets were rewinding in a summer slow-down. Did you feel it?

With the astrological element of Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) so strongly represented, September 2018’s cosmic weather is a tempting time to get your hands dirty, cook some delicious food (don’t forget those earthy root veg!), go walking, or save some money.

Mixing up something old and traditional with something edgy or innovative goes well all month – thanks to an unlikely, yet harmonious, partnership between cautious Saturn in Capricorn and rebellious Uranus in Taurus.

Then it’s all change at the Equinox (23rd), when the Sun (and Mercury) leaves Virgo, harvest maiden goddess, and enters airy Libra.

So why not embrace this wonderfully practical, yet sensuous, phase? Enjoy September!

Sunday 9th September:

Venus enters Scorpio

Beguiling Venus is drawing ever closer to us here on Earth this September.  Step outside, and you’ll see her shining brightly in the evening sky now, and throughout the autumn.

Bright Venus is prominent this autumn, for she’s turning retrograde (as seen from Earth) between 5th October – 16th November. This means she’s travelling closer to us here on Earth as she moves along her magical pentagram-shaped path through space. Her path is known as the five petals of Venus, or the pentagram/pentacle of Venus. It takes eight years to complete. And how lovely it is to know that this witchy shape is being drawn by Venus in the heavens, over and over again.

Here’s the astronomy:

The five-pointed star of the pentacle itself ripples with magical associations. It represents the ancient goddess Kore, whose symbolic five-pointed star is revealed by cutting open her sacred fruit, the apple, horizontally. Venus in astrology rules orchard fruits, including apples. Her pentacle-shaped path in space is mapped out in the fertile heart, or core, of an apple.

Kore is a Greek goddess, but her name has many variants across other cultures for she embodies the symbolic feminine energies of the universe.

Venus, goddess of love, rules attraction, art, beauty, money, jewellery, orchards, flowers, entertainment and many other lovely, desirable things in astrology.

Her natural zodiac houses are sensuous Taurus – possessions, values, and cash, and strategic Libra – partnerships, alliances, marriages, and open enemies (you always hurt the ones you love). Venus attracts. She’s magnetic.

Venus now travels through passionate, possessive Scorpio until Halloween, when she backs into her home sign, Libra for November, and maybe a few marriage proposals. She’s back into bewitching Scorpio in time for some Yuletide intensity – 2nd December – 7th January, 2019.

So where is Scorpio in your own natal horoscope?

Scorpio’s themes and concerns are about to get a big Venusian boost between September and January. Do you have any planets there?  Venus in Scorpio doesn’t mess about. This is a lock on, lock it down kind of energy.

Generally, Venus in Scorpio could be very positive for finances, investments, and money from unearned sources such as insurance claims or legacies. Scorpio is an astute financial sign, as well as a psychic, sexual one. The fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius are also in line for some extra attention from Venus.

A winter Venus in Scorpio wears rich, moody colours, snakey prints, and shiny boots of leather. She may also enjoy flaunting a little velvet, or some fake fur, dyed an unlikely colour.

Romantically, Venus in Scorpio is a seriously sexy introvert. Autumn 2018 could be a stand-out time for love, relationships, and sexual connections for many of us.

Once Mars dives into sensitive, watery Pisces on 15th November, we enter a particularly rich, fluid phase for erotic and intuitive (even karmic) links between people. It’s deeply emotional. Prepare for a time when music is the food of love, and passion rules.

Sunday 9th September:

“A Bit of Earth”: New Moon at 17 degrees of Virgo, the Harvest Goddess

A little Virgo new Moon story:

“Might I,” quavered Mary, “might I have a bit of earth?”

In her eagerness she did not realize how queer the words would sound and that they were not the ones she had meant to say. Mr. Craven looked quite startled.

“Earth!” he repeated. “What do you mean?”

“To plant seeds in—to make things grow—to see them come alive,” Mary faltered.

He gazed at her a moment and then passed his hand quickly over his eyes.

“Do you—care about gardens so much,” he said slowly.

“I didn’t know about them in India,” said Mary. “I was always ill and tired and it was too hot. I sometimes made little beds in the sand and stuck flowers in them. But here it is different.”

Mr. Craven got up and began to walk slowly across the room.

“A bit of earth,” he said to himself, and Mary thought that somehow she must have reminded him of something. When he stopped and spoke to her his dark eyes looked almost soft and kind.

“You can have as much earth as you want,” he said. “You remind me of some one else who loved the earth and things that grow. When you see a bit of earth you want,” with something like a smile, “take it, child, and make it come alive.”

Frances Hodgson Burnett, ‘The Secret Garden’ (1911)

This is a stunning new Moon - creative, dreamy, and properly practical. Do make the most of it – this is such a positive time for new beginnings and fresh intentions.

There’s more in the Moon Diary.

Here’s the astrology:
The Virgo Sun and new Moon oppose mystical Neptune in Pisces, sextile Jupiter in Scorpio, and trine Pluto in Capricorn. An otherworldly feeling or some confusion swirls around, thanks to Neptune – but the powerful Jupiter and Pluto aspects mean we can find a productive, successful way through the fog.
Mercury in Virgo rules our new Moon. It’s just beginning to move away from a constructive grand trine with Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus.

Currently, the astrological earth element is very strong. Today, we have Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Virgo; Saturn, Mars and Pluto in Capricorn; Uranus in Taurus. That’s an amazing down-to-earth seven out of the classical ten planets used in astrology.

If you’d like to add the asteroid goddesses too, then marriage and partnership Juno is in sexy Taurus all month; hearth and home fires Vesta enters security-minded Capricorn on 18th September, and wise, clever Pallas is in Virgo from the 4th, where her ideas will no doubt be discerning and meticulous.

Until 22nd – 23rd September when the Sun and Mercury enter Libra, we have Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto in the realistic, practical earth signs.

Tuesday 11th September:

Warrior Mars returns to Aquarius today.

What began in May, when Mars first entered this airy fixed sign, comes around again. If things stalled over the summer, they can move forward now. With Aquarius, it’s about groups of people – so anything needing teamwork, sociability, or some kind of consensus is highlighted for action between now and mid-November.

Social media questions and issues are prominent topics too. And watch out for more tales of cyber crime, hacking, and techie incidents. Checking your own computer security is worthwhile.

Between now and the end of September things could get quite punchy, with tempers flaring up suddenly as people agitate for reforms, or rebel against the establishment.

Mars is arguing with rebellious Uranus in Taurus, and challenging the public – represented by the Moon’s Nodes in Leo.

Mars reactivates the total lunar eclipse of 27th July now as well. 4 degrees of Aquarius is now sensitive, and Mars switches it on.

Aquarian themes illuminated by July’s energetic eclipse include technology, electricity, humanitarian organisations and groups, inventive epiphanies, rebellions and upheavals.

There may be spectacular electrical storms or outages. People could be in the mood to call a strike or join a mass protest. There were tremendous storms around the date of July’s lunar eclipse, so we could well see more – particularly between 23rd – 28th September.

Mars enters musical, fishy Pisces on 15th November, 2018 – 1st January, 2019.

Wednesday 12th September:

Power pack

Confidence, power, and influence rise as Jupiter sextiles Pluto exactly today at 18 degrees of Scorpio and Capricorn.

This dynamic duo has been around for much of 2018. Its themes include travel, foreigners and foreign nations, the power of religion, international security and secret negotiations, plutocrats, and the influence of the underworld – from criminals to earthquakes. It’s strongly financial too – Scorpio and Capricorn are financial signs.

If you have personal planets or points at around 18 degrees of Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces, Cancer, Virgo or Taurus you can choose to take advantage of this planet pattern during September, and make it work in your favour.

Do you need to do something requiring confidence and staying power? Is there something you’d really like to change in your life or career? September could be the perfect moment to go for it, or embrace opportunities and introductions that come your way.

Sunday 23rd September:

The Autumn Equinox, Sun enters Libra the Scales

Equal day and night mark the first day of autumn, when the Sun enters Libra – sign of the Scales of balance and harmony. Or rather a sign that strives for balance and harmony, and will use charm and strategy to achieve it. Happy Equinox!

Tuesday 25th September:

Ouch! Full Harvest Moon in Aries

Our energetic full Moon in Aries rises at 1-2 degrees of this dynamic, feisty fire sign. It means serious business, and reality bites now in a big way for some individuals and locations.

The diplomatic Sun in Libra will have a lot of work to do as September ends and October begins – from couples counselling to conflict resolution.

Numerous national horoscopes are lit up by this full Moon, and the serious aspects it illuminates.

Places worth watching include the UK where the Aries Moon and her aspects rattle the UK’s rebel Uranus in legal Libra. Legal and leadership issues could be coming to a head, although things are still in transition. There’s tension between old and new, innovative action and existing partnerships and arrangements.

Cambodia and New Zealand have their Libran Suns opposite this Moon – people power and government actions could create tension in these locations.

There’s more in the Moon Diary.

The astrology:

Full Moon aligns with Chiron in Aries. Moon and Chiron sextile Mars in Aquarius, square Saturn in Capricorn. Sun in Libra opposes Moon and Chiron, trines Mars, and squares Saturn.
